I'm on the IR for a little bit. I was pretty busy so I didn't get around to watching the Colorado game, but the Vancouver game I've actually got a good excuse for.

I was playing hockey last night (roller hockey), and I was told by my team that "the guy in the blue pants" is a complete tool and likes to play the body.. which isn't a problem, I actually like taking a hit from time to time, but you're not really supposed to in roller hockey.

So I'm reaching for a lose puck to my right, thinking there's no one to my left... and bam, I get hit. I feel fine, my feel like my shoulder just got stung, go right to the bench and try to shake it off. I reach up and touch my collarbone... and decide on the spot that I should probably go to hospital. Nice little bulge from where my clavicle shattered into three pieces. To quote my teammate (and apparent reader of BDS) ,who took me to the hospital after the game, "it looks like there's an egg under your skin." Went to the hospital, sat around for three hours while they promised me ice and painkillers and delivered on neither, finally left with a couple prescriptions of painkillers and a specialist to call to figure out if I need surgery. Since it's in three pieces, there's a decent chance it might not all heal right on its own.

But there's good news... I scored before I left the game, and we got the W, aw yeah, still undefeated.

Also, I've never broken a bone before so I'm enjoying my Vicodin right now. Like an hour after they drugged me up I was convinced my bone had mended itself. Interesting experience, but I'm being told by everyone and anyone to not get addicted.

I ended up missing the whole Wings game and wasn't much in the mood to watch a 6-3 loss for the midnight replay. I haven't even watched highlights but I know Jimmy got pulled and I'm not much in the mood for debating goaltending right now. So unfortunately, no recap on that game.

Anywho, I'm actually on Spring Break next week so I was hoping to be able to write a fair amount, but typing with two hands is rather uncomfortable, and one hand is too slow. We'll see how it goes, the busyness will likely depend on whether or not I need to go under the knife, which I'll find out tomorrow. Until then, take care, and enjoy your collarbones. The two most difficult things on my life right now are taking off my shirt and buttoning my pants. But it could be worse, I suppose.

Geez...the Red Wing injury bug this season doesn't just limit itself to the players I guess. Bloggers aren't safe either...I'm going into hiding in my bunker with my tinfoil hat!

It's true. I took a puck to the chin on Monday and had seven stitches put in right after the Colorado game. The injury bug has shifted from players to bloggers!

Take care of yourself and I hope the surgery (if needed) and the healing (whether or not after surgery) goes well.

hey kyle, i hope i didn't come across as too callous. A broken c-bone can really create problems (did you have a blood blister across your chest & stomach?) Whether you have surgery or not, make sure you do the exercises with weights or rubber tubes for a few years after, even if you think you have full dexterity. Please continue to do them, when you are 50 yrs old, it will make a big difference.

Thanks for the support everyone. Today went rather well.

Walt, no worries, I'm actually in pretty good spirits today. My shoulder looked like an egg because the bone is kinda pressing against the skin. Maybe I'll be able to put up my x-ray tomorrow. But they did say if there's no surgery it's basically guaranteed that it's going to heal funny and be a little deformed. No worries though, I can live with that.

Two months with no hockey could be rough though. I took a summer off once (still played outdoors though) and had lost just all timing. Hopefully it heals so I can still have a full range of motion with my shot and everything.

Typing's feeling pretty good so I'm hoping I'll do a recap for the Nashville game tomorrow. I can't promise that I'll be using good grammar or even putting together coherent thoughts. Good luck smilies/tongue.gif.

BTW, you can all sign my sling at H2H.

That sux Kyle. I have never broken a bone before but I have been laid out pretty good a few times playing roller hockey. Lucky for me I am one of the oldest in the league (January B-Day!) so the kids who hit me were a little smaller than me. Most of the time the hits are just unexpected and because growing up playing roller hockey I never got hit so I never bothered correcting my bad habit of keepin my head down. The first time I got hit (last year) I was soo confused, I always thought you couldn't do that stuff in roller hockey.

Get well soon. I know, it's generic generic, but it fits.

And as someone who has taken more than his fair share of pain meds, don't undermedicate yourself due to being afraid of addiction. The docs will wean you off, so don't worry.

Kyle - sorry to hear about your injury.

Glad to hear vicodin does more for you than it does for me. I generally fill my scripts for it, then give it away to people I know who enjoy it more than I do. I prefer the marijuana (added benefit: no physical addiction).

Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

That sucks man.

Where is this roller hockey at? Since graduating and moving back home I haven't been able to play anywhere. Hockey is almost non-existent around my hometown.

The only rink near Grand Valley is called Rivertown Sports, in Grandville. Only other place I've played on this side of the state is called Lazer Skate or something, it's in Cedar Springs.

Are you from this area? I know a ton of rinks out on the east side too, from my glory days playing high school and one year of collegiate roller hockey. Those were the days. Just look at me now, I've got nothing!

I'm in Jackson, which has to be the worst spot in the state for anything hockey-related. It's in between the hockeyness of Detroit and Grand Valley, and apparently too south from Lansing. There is one roller rink within like 30 miles, and there is no hockey there. They just ..... skate around.
